Phone Number Changes

This file details the changes within a city (e.g., 6 digit to 7 digits). The long distance codes for some cities were also changed at the same time when they added a digit to the original number.

澳门电话号码１０月１日升至８位
目前澳门一般使用的固网电话号码为６位数字，移动电话号码为７位数字，还有一些长度不等的特殊号码。统一升位后。原６位固定电话号码前加数字２８、原７位移动电话号码前加数字６，升位后的新号码和原号码共用期为５个月，至２００７年３月１日原号码停止使用。此后，居民或海外用户致电旧电话号码，仍会有语音提示。
但是，９９９、１４１等所有“９”字头及“１”字头的紧急或服务电话号码保持不变。国际直拨电话号码的升位时间延后为２００８年１月１日，届时原７位号码前加数字８。〖详细情况〗
June 28, 2002: Shenzhen changes to 8 digits
On 28 June 2002 at 1600 hours UTC, the subscriber telephone numbers of Shenzhen in Guangdong Province will be changed from seven to eight digits. Numbers with leading digit "9" will not be affected.

人民网深圳5月17日电记者胡谋报道：今天上午，深圳市政府举行新闻发布会宣布，深圳市本地电话网号码将于6月29日零时由7位数升为8位。具体升位方式是：区号 0755不变；2、3、4字头电话号码前加8；5、6、7、8字头电话号码前加2；1、9字头及 200等专用电话号码不变。

There will be a six-month period of parallel dialling for all the affected areas.

海南全省长途区号将统一为898

　　据赛迪网5月15日报道：据介绍，海南省本地固定电话网并网升位于5月18日零时
实施。自此时起，该省只有一个长途电话区号898；全省电话同时由七位升为八位。
此次并网升位体现了两个全国第一：一个省组建成一个大本地网全国第一，全省固定
电话号码同时由七位升八位全国第一。

 海南原有的电话网建有海口、三亚、儋州三个本地网，区号分别是898、899、890。
5月18日并网后，省内长途取消，海南省的国内长途区号统一调整为898；全省电话统一
升为八位。具体升位办法是：海口本地网电话在原电话号码前加6，三亚本地网电话在
原电话号码前加8，儋州本地网电话在原电话号码前加2。

武汉市电话号码升位工作将分两步走：首先，武汉模拟移动电话网于本月２８日（星
期日）零时升八位，方法是在原模拟移动电话号码的第二、三位之间插“９”；其次
，武汉本地电话网升八位，预计在明年５月１７日（星期日）零时进行，升位方法是
在原电话号码的首位前加“８”。

Additional information about Guangdong:

All 209x area codes in Guangdong have been cancelled for quite a few years and all (020) 9xxx xxxx are for mobile telephones (mobile numbers in Guangzhou have been standardized to 8 digits at the beginning of this year). Huadu City (formerly Hua Xian---Hua County), Conghua, Zengcheng and Panyu (not Fanyu) are all under 020, the area code for Guangzhou.
I think there are no longer any 5-digit area codes in Guangdong, though I can't remember all the changes. I am only sure that Shunde's area code has changed from 07653 to 0765, and Shunde's phone numbers have grown to 7 digit long by repeating the first digit, e.g. (07653) 345678 becomes (0765) 334 5678.
If I am not mistaken, all Nanhai phone numbers (07651) are now under the Foshan area code (0757).
